Research and Teaching Profile

Jacob Barto received his BA in German Studies from the University of Arizona in 2008 and completed his MA in German at the University of Oregon in 2010. Having originally sought to focus on cinema, Jacob’s interests have broadened significantly since his entrance to the PhD program and his dissertation will focus on parallel existential-historical philosophies of education in Nietzsche’s Zarathustra and the novels of Hermann Hesse. Jacob is a recipient of the Hansen Graduate Scholarship and has never studied abroad — but he likes to wander around Europe alone, sleep near museums, and pick up dialects.
