Statement

Liska Clemence Chan works across the disciplines of landscape architecture, environmental humanities, art, and cultural studies. Chan's research is organized around four intersecting topics: mapping as a form of critical geography, the role of landscape in the cultural imagination, the long-term legacies of waste landscapes, and the social production of everyday space in the city. She is an advocate for teaching synthesized interdisciplinary concepts to students, focussing on fostering visual analysis skills, critical engagement with methods of the discipline, and analytical modes of drawing. Liska Chan is currently head of the Landscape Architecture Department, and has served as head of the School of Architecture & Environment, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Design, and Associate Dean for Faculty in the Clark Honors College.
