Profile

BA in Romance Languages and an MS in Historic Preservation from the University of Oregon.

Areas of interest include vernacular buildings and landscapes; early Oregon sites with particular interest in agricultural buildings, sites, and landscapes; Oregon pioneer history; the nexus between historical archaeology and historic preservation; and women’s contributions to architecture. Previous work experience includes positions in the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office and on the Eugene Historic Review Board; currently works as a preservation consultant. Ms. Carter has previously taught many special problems courses such as International Preservation, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Site Analysis (historic preservation and archaeology), and Applegate House Interpretation. In addition to teaching and consulting, Ms. Carter serves on the board of Restore Oregon and the Applegate House Heritage Arts and Education and contributes to the Oregon Encyclopedia. Teaches Intro to Historic Preservation and National Register Nomination.
