Beck’s research focuses on transgender audience reception of television and transgender representation in the media. Beck’s secondary interests include rurality’s depiction on the screen and media’s role in identity formation.

Professional Experience

Beck worked as a newspaper reporter and in nonprofit publications before beginning a career in higher education. They worked in communications at New York University and in events management at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to pursuing a doctorate, they taught at Penn State – Brandywine, Delaware County Community College, and Montgomery County Community College in the Philadelphia area.
