Biography

Derek Franklin (b. 1981) is an artist based in Portland, Oregon.  He received his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and his MFA from Rutgers University. Recent solo and Two Person exhibitions include Standing Around Waiting to Inhale (Anytime Dept., Cincinnati: 2017), To Leave No Trace (Williamson Knight, Portland: 2017), Eyes (Ditch Projects with Kristan Kennedy: 2016), Gray Minstrel (Carl and Sloan Contemporary, Portland: 2015), Mending Capers (Thierry Goldberg, New York: 2015), and Meditation Furniture for Ten Minute Breaks (Document, Chicago: 2015).  Franklin's works have also been presented in group exhibitions at Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (Portland: 2018) Y gallery (New York:2017) Thierry Goldberg (New York: 2014), Andel31 (Copenhagen: 2014), Simone Subal Gallery (New York: 2013), and Soloway (New York: 2013). Franklin was a partner and director at the artist run space Soloway in Brooklyn, NY from 2012-2027. Before coming to University of Oregon he was an Assistant Professor and Art Program Director at Marylhurst University in Portland.
