Biography

Marc Brown is a Senior Deputy Defender with the Appellate Division of the Office of Public Defense Services. In that capacity, he represents individuals appealing their criminal convictions before the Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Supreme Court. He graduated from University of Idaho College of Law in 2001 and clerked with the Kodiak Superior Court in Kodiak, Alaska. After his clerkship, Marc joined the faculty of Washington State University-Vancouver, teaching courses on the United States Constitution, civil liberties, criminal procedure, and federal Indian law. In 2014, Marc received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach a course on the United States Constitution at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. In 2017, Marc taught a course comparing the United States and Indian constitutions at Shivaji University in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India, under a Global Initiative Academic Network grant from the government of India. Marc returned to South China University of Technology in 2019. Outside of work, Marc is an endurance runner who once ran one marathon each month for a year and has a small urban farm. Marc has also appeared in several episodes of the television shows Grimm and Portlandia.
