Focus Area: Cultural Anthropology
Areas of Interest: Political and economic anthropology, international development, mobilities studies, post-colonialism and tourism. Dr. Montague’s dissertation, “Contested Nation, Global Space: The Politics of Tourism and Tuareg Heritage in Mali” took an ethnographic perspective on competing global discourses and contested nationalisms in a post-colonial, multicultural nation. Using the Festival au Desert as a case study, Dr. Montague investigated the complexities of using cultural productions and tourism to achieve political, economic, and social goals. Her current research is focusing on tourism development in post-conflict areas and theories of (im)mobility
