Profile

Anna is a doctoral student with a research focus on the archaeology of Alaska and the Arctic. She is interested in the ways in which gender roles articulate with subsistence practices in pre-contact and contact-era Indigenous communities of the north. In her dissertation research, Anna is using archaeological and ethnographic methods to explore how gender dynamics were affected by processes of contact and colonialism in Yup'ik communities of southwest Alaska. She has participated in archaeological field projects at the Nunalleq, Cape Espenberg, and Serpentine Hot Springs sites, and has also done ethnographic field research in Quinhagak, Alaska.
