He received his B.S. in biochemical engineering from the ITESM (Monterrey and Queretaro, Mexico), his M.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Ohio University, and his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Michigan. He also holds a certification in Film Studies from the latter.
