Statement

Diego Contreras-Medrano is a Sociology PhD Candidate. He earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon, and a bachelor's degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. His fields of specialization are international migration, labor, gender, Mexican migrant workers, photography, Sociological Theory and Ethnography. His research examins, on the one hand, the ways in which Mexican-born contractors with different migration, national, and ethnic backgrounds shape the labor and living conditions of farmworkers in Oregon. On the other, how migrant farmworkers subvert the power of contractors and the precarious conditions of employment in order to build small but important spaces of autonomy and dignity.
