Statement

Matthew Friesen is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oregon with interests in social movements, food systems, militarism, and environmental sociology.  His most recent article entitled “Framing Symbols and Space: Counter Recruitment and Resistance to the U.S. Military in Public Education” will appear in the March 2014 volume of Sociological Forum. Matthew’s dissertation entitled “Parsing the Palate: A Movement Network Analysis of U.S. Food Advocacy Coalitions” examines how the national food advocacy network works to resist a hegemonic corporate food regime and create change in the domestic food system.
