Statement

Since 1996, I have conducted community-partnered basic and policy research focused on health, human rights, social networks, and cultural assets in Guatemala and with Latino communities in the U.S. In my current role with OSLC’s Latino Research Team (LRT), I am engaged in research that investigates the effects of Latino immigrants’ processes of adaptation to U.S. society (acculturation) on behavioral, emotional, and physical health outcomes. This work draws on my previous human rights work and anthropological research into the effects of environmental factors (e.g., sociocultural, political, economic) and social networks on immigrant acculturation and health within and outside of established Latino communities in Chicago, Washington DC, and Los Angeles.
