Statement

Jan Reaves’ painting and drawings explore ideas about the body and the natural world through the language of gesture and materiality. The pursuit of what is “essential” drives her studio practice. Jan has taught at Western Michigan University and the University of Iowa. She is currently an Instructor teaching painting and drawing at the University of Oregon. She attended the Portland Museum Art School, received her BA from the University of Oregon in 1970 and her MFA in painting from the University of Oregon in 1983. Her work is in the collection of the Portland Art Museum.  She is represented by the Laura Russo Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
