Lisa Shimmel is the Partnerships Director for the HEDCO Institute for Evidence-Based Educational Practice. Lisa has 18 years of experience in conducting research and technical assistance to support the research-based implementation of education policy and practice initiatives and engage in effective communication and knowledge utilization strategies to facilitate that use of research in decision making and planning processes at the state and local level.
Prior to joining the University of Oregon, Lisa worked for the American Institutes for Research (AIR), serving as a Principal Researcher/Policy Analyst in the Human Services Division. While at AIR, Lisa led efforts across multiple projects to support policymakers and other education stakeholders regarding the use of evidence-based practices. These efforts included leading innovative strategies to effectively communicate research findings and evidence with policymakers and practitioners. At AIR, Lisa also led efforts to provide high quality support to state education agencies as they designed and implemented initiatives aimed at supporting student success, including providing guidance around alignment with evidence-based practices and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). In addition, she has two years of teaching experience at the high school level and volunteered for a year with AmeriCorps VISTA as a community outreach coordinator for "I Have a Dream" - East Palo Alto.
