While I address a range of socio-environmental issues in my research and teaching, there are two questions in which I'm particularly interested: How does modern development transform and respond to changes in the built and natural environments, and what roles do urbanization and rural-urban relations play in this process? My most recent research project integrates data on local land use change from the National Land Cover Database with measures of demographic and economic change from the US census and examines connections between local growth and land use intensification across the continental United States at the start of the 21st century.
