Megan McCarthy's main interests within sociology include gender and the media, women's health and social media and its effects on communication styles. She graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Women's and Gender Studies, writing her thesis on gender performances in political campaigns. Megan worked at several public relations firms prior to attending the University of Oregon. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the American Sociological Association and Sociologists for Women in Society
