Statement

Rick received his BA in English literature from UC Berkeley, and an MA in Russian literature from UO in 2014. He is in his first year of his doctoral program. Rick’s research interests include avant-garde movements, interaction and mutual cultural influence expressed in literature and performing arts, such as Brecht and Tretiakov, Meyerhold and Piscator, Berlin during the Weimar Republic, and the influence of ETA Hoffmann and N. Gogol’s “fantastic realism” on early 20th century writers. He also enjoys the study of literature and the arts during totalitarian regimes.
