Profile

Ross is a doctoral student studying the development of Inupiat subsistence fisheries in northwest Alaska.  Ross lived and worked in Alaska for over 20 years and is interested in applying zooarchaeological data to contemporary issues, such as the conservation and management of critical subsistence resources including whitefish, cisco, and sheefish.  As part of his dissertation research, Ross is synthesizing existing archaeofaunal and technological data regarding pre-contact subsistence fishing from across the region and is proposing to undertake field research to document pre-contact subsistence fishing practices at a smaller scale within a defined drainage system during periods of past climate change.
