Shoniqua Roach is Assistant Professor of Black Feminist Theory in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Oregon, where her research and teaching focuses on Black Feminism, Black Sexuality Studies, and Black Literary and Visual Cultures. Professor Roach received her B.A. in English Literature from Penn State in 2012, an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Florida in 2013, and a Ph.D. in Performance Studies with certificates in African American and Diaspora Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Critical Theory from Northwestern University in 2017. Her recent and forthcoming publications include writing in Women and Performance, Feminist Theory, Signs, differences, The Black Scholar, and the Journal of American Culture. She is currently at work on her book manuscript, Black Sexual Sanctuaries, which explores the possibilities for black women’s sexual citizenship and erotic freedom that exist within domains often overlooked or dismissed, including privacy and domesticity.
