Katie graduated with a J.D. from George Washington University in 2011 and a B.A. in Latin American Studies and Spanish and a minor in Economics from the University of Oklahoma in 2008. In 2012 she received a Master's in Bilingual Education from the University of Alcala (Spain). She is a licensed attorney in Oklahoma and Oregon. Katie's dissertation examines the influences of racism and ableism on parental advocacy in the special education system. Her prior research investigates tensions between fat studies, disability studies, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. While finishing her dissertation, she works as an attorney with Oklahoma's Protection and Advocacy agency, the Oklahoma Disability Law Center (ODLC). Protection and Advocacy agencies are federally mandated independent organizations charged with protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
