As IT Director, Ben is responsible for all services, operations, personnel and budgets in CASIT. He serves as the College’s key contributor and advisor in establishing and directing technological policies, controls, and procedures, and represents the College's IT interests accross campus. Ben is also charged with coordinating CAS participation in the UO's "Transform IT" project which will analyze and rationalize IT service delivery campus-wide. Ben was hired by the College of Arts and Sciences in 2007 to create a web development service for CAS departments. When CASIT was created, his team became one of its service areas. He later became Associate Director of CASIT, responsible for internal operations and for the Web, Systems and Help Desk teams. Ben has an academic background in Sanskrit and Tibetan literature and Himalayan art, and learned web development by working on art historical and bibliographic databases when he was a museum administrator in New York City. He also taught Art History through UO’s Freshman Seminars program from 2005 to 2016.
