Dr. Lanbin Ren’s research interests lie at the intersection of the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. In 2012, she received her Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon. Her dissertation “Park-above-Parking Downtown: a Spatial-based Impact Investigation,” focuses on the revitalization of deteriorated urban cores through open space transformation. Findings from her dissertation have been published and presented in CELA and EDRA annual conferences. In addition to her doctoral degree, she holds an MS.Arch from the University of Cincinnati and an M.Arch from the South China University of Technology, China where she completed several award-winning projects ranging from educational building design to street design. She has taught a variety of courses in multiple schools worldwide. At the University of Oregon, she created and taught two new courses for the School Of Architecture and Allied Arts: “Sustainable Design” and “Contemporary Urban Design and Development in Asia” in 2012. Beyond research and teaching, she also practices as an architect, landscape architect, and urban designer. She serves as a design consultant for the Shaanxi Institute of Cultural Heritage on several ongoing historical preservation projects in China. In the fall 2013, she will be teaching Computer Aided LA Design.
