Biography

Sandra Boone (she/her) is a public relations/strategic communication professional turned PhD student with 15 years of experience working in higher education, nonprofit, and political settings. She most recently worked at the University of Minnesota where she managed communications for International Student and Scholar Services, the Immigration Response Team, and Housing & Residential Life.

At the University of Oregon, Sandra's research examines equity and power concerns for public relations/strategic communications professionals, focusing on the intersection of language, power, and identity. Her research bridges functionalist and critical/socio-cultural public relations scholarship, and she emphasizes application, action, and change. Sandra previously earned a Strategic Communication MA at the University of Minnesota with a minor in Literacy & Rhetorical Studies. Her final Capstone research examined the communications practices of anti-trafficking organizations as an avenue to discuss the need for ethical/equitable storytelling practices for all professional communicators.

In addition to meeting with students in her classes and/or discussing her research, Sandra is happy to talk to undergraduate/graduate students interested in being a professional communicator in nonprofit/higher education or scholars wanting insight into the potential application of their work.
