Biography

Shuangting Xiong is a PhD candidate in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Oregon. She also holds a B.A. and an M.A. in English and an M.A. in Asian Studies. Her primary research interests include twentieth-century Chinese literature and culture, melodrama, critical theory, and Marxist literary and cultural theory. She is currently completing her dissertation that explores how melodramatic narratives of suffering, victimhood, and affective intensity across different media were used to make revolution and transform sociality in twentieth-century China.
