Marilyn A. Nippold, PhD, CCC-SLP is an internationally-known scholar in adolescent language development and disorders, with particular expertise in the areas of language sampling, complex syntax, critical thinking, and word learning. A professor of Communication Disorders and Sciences at the University of Oregon, she has served as a co-principal investigator on a longitudinal study of language development, funded by the National Institutes of Health, and on a cross-linguistic study of adolescent language development funded by the Binational Science Foundation (Israel-US). A Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) since 1999, Professor Nippold has published eight books and 130 journal articles and book chapters, and has made more than 220 professional presentations. In 2015, she received Honors of the Association, ASHA’s highest award, for “distinguished and exceptional contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders.” She also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Purdue University (2017), the Editor’s Award from ASHA (1983, 2001), and the Outstanding Publications Award from the Council for Exceptional Children (2009). Professor Nippold is a former public school Speech-Language Pathologist and served as Editor of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools for five years. Currently she serves on the Editorial Board of Child Language Teaching and Therapy, an international research journal. Professor Nippold has collaborated on research projects with scholars from other universities in the US and around the world.
